Here we bring you the nine best books related to Egyptian Mythology that will have you reaching for more in this genre.
Personally, reading up on mythologically inspired fiction never disappoints, no matter whichever one I pick up. Egyptian mythology, being one of the most ancient ones, is filled with the stories of the Sphinx and Anubis and the mysterious rulers who fought and won the wars. Although not as dramatic (and gory) as Greek mythology (as far as I know – if someone knows about the more disturbing part of Egyptian mythology, please tell me!), it’s still super entertaining. With way too many potentials to be experimented with.
P.S. The books are arranged in alphabetical order, as you all already know.
So, lets get started. Here are the best egyptian mythology books:
#1 Ancient Egypt Series by Wilbur Smith

For Tanus, the fair-haired young lion of a warrior, the gods have decreed that he will lead Egypt’s army in a bold attempt to reunite the Kingdom’s shared halves. However, Tanus is ready to defy them to attain the reward they have forbidden him, an object more prized than battle’s glory: possession of the Lady Lostris. Ancient Egypt Series contains a large cast ensemble, with Tatia, a warlock, as the protagonist. Recommended to be read in the chronological order declared by the author, Ancient Egypt is a historical fiction that has one single man become the voice of the whole country.
Why do we recommend this book?
I read the book’s synopsis and was so sure I would be bored to death. Imagine my surprise that I am still alive. Just kidding. Boring is the last thing I would describe this book as. Even with every book having more than 400 pages, the action and adventure kept me hooked on the story and the character development.

#2 Cleopatra’s Moon by Vicky Alvear
About the Book

Selene grew up in a palace on the Nile under parents Cleopatra and Mark Antony – the most brilliant, powerful rulers on earth. But when a cruel Roman Emperor takes the country and whisks the princess to Rome against her will, she finds herself torn between two young men and two possible destinies – indecisive until she reaches out to claim her own. Cleopatra’s Moon, her daughter as its protagonist, redefines what Cleopatra was as a woman and as a Queen. She accounts for her sacrifices, strength, dedication, love for her country, and everything else that made her the mysterious, most scandalous woman in Egypt’s history.
Why do we recommend this book?
I honestly love everything about this book. All the things we learn about Cleopatra, her life before she rose to the throne after being labeled the ‘Whore Queen,’ her choices that were questionable at best, and how those decisions affected her children and their future. I loved Selene as a character, and though the plot mainly was bland, I loved the whole re-telling ish vibe of the novel and how much it made me rethink and reanalyze the history.

#3 Daughter of The Gods: A Novel of Ancient Egypt by Stephanie Marie Thornton

In 1400s BC, Egypt, the pharaoh’s pampered second daughter, Hatshepsut, delights in racing her chariot through the marketplace and testing her archery skills in the Nile’s marshlands. But the death of her elder sister, Neferubity, in a gruesome accident arising from Hatshepsut’s games forces her to confront her guilt…and sets her on a profoundly changed course. Hatshepsut enters a loveless marriage with her half-brother, Thut, to secure his claim to the Horus Throne and produce a male heir. When Thut suddenly dies, Hatshepsut becomes the de facto ruler, as regent to her two-year-old nephew, as she is expected to put Egypt first and always be torn between the demands of leadership and the desires of her heart. But every great ruler has enemies, and hers will plot her downfall at any cost. The story of Hatshepsut, the fifth pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty of Egypt, and the second historically confirmed female pharaoh, Daughter of the Gods, is about a woman whose willingness to defy tradition changed history.
Why do we recommend this book?
For those who don’t know, Hatshepsut is said to be the longest-reigning female pharaoh in Egypt and is considered one of Egypt’s most successful pharaohs. The chilling power play and Hatshepsut’s amazingly written character (she is already a boss lady even in the original history story) make Daughter of the Gods one of those inspiring novels. After reading this, you would surely wish to be a badass, uber-cool ruler of a country.

Nefertiti may be the dutiful daughter of a commoner, but her inquisitive mind often gets her far from ordinary situations, like receiving private lessons from a scribe. And she’s the kind of girl who acts first and apologizes later whenever she witnesses injustice or cruelty. But she is also extraordinarily beautiful. And news of her striking beauty and impulsive behavior attracts the attention of her aunt, the manipulative Queen Tiye, who sees Nefertiti as an ideal pawn in her desire for power. So even though Nefertiti is taken from her beloved family and forced into a life filled with courtly intrigue and danger, she continues to challenge herself and the boundaries of ancient Egyptian society. And when she does manage to break free from the confinements of the palace, it’s not in a way she expected, ever.
Why do we recommend this book?
Sphinx’s Princess is a retelling of Nefertiti’s story, a queen whose reign was a time of tremendous cultural upheaval, as she and her husband, Pharaoh Akhenaten, reoriented Egypt’s religious and political structure around the worship of the sun god Aten. She is also said to be one of the icons of feminine beauty and icon. The whole take of her uprising from a commoner to a Queen and her love story was pure extraordinary. Of course, it helps that Nefertiti, herself, is such a lovable and iconic personality both in this book’s character and in history.

One of the most well-known queens of ancient Egypt, The Heretic Queen tells the story of Nefertari, a forgotten princess who must overcome her family’s past and remake history. In Thebes, a devastating palace fire killed the Eighteenth Dynasty’s royal family, except for Nefertari, the niece of the reviled former queen, Nefertiti. The girl’s deceased family has been branded as heretical, and no one in Egypt will speak their names. A relic of a previous reign, Nefertari has been pushed aside, with no care. That changes when the Pharaoh’s aunt takes her under her wings. Soon she catches the eye of the Crown Prince, giving rise to political unrest. She becomes the wife of Ramesses the Great, destined to be the most powerful Pharaoh in Egypt – The Heretic Queen tells of the role Nefertari played in the making of history.
Why do we recommend this book?
Love love love it! I was so glad that the author ensured that anyone who isn’t aware of the history and of Nefertari’s story can also read and enjoy this book without having to google the myth beforehand, or keeping the tabs open on the side. And yes, I am saying this only because I myself wasn’t aware of her story before reading this book. Everything I now know about her though? Absolute role model (I read Sphinx’s Princess series after this book). I love this woman and the author’s retelling of an already interesting character from history is just genius.

Everything goes wrong when Carter, the main character, his father, and his sister Sadie go to the British Museum for a private viewing of the Rosetta Stone. But there at the museum, when their dad blows the stone apart, he gets trapped in a sarcophagus. And then disappears into the floor. That’s when their long-lost Uncle, Amos, helps them escape to a Brooklyn mansion. And that’s just the start! Then they learn new things about their parents, their heritage, and their whole world is turned upside down.
Why do we recommend this book?
Rick Riordan has tried his hands in all – Greek, Roman, and Egypt mythology – and he has nearly succeeded in almost all of them (the Percy Jackson series is still his best work, inarguably). Sure, the Kane Chronicles is filled with holes and clumsy plots, but the characters, the writing style, and the humor (signature of Riordan, one he is damn good at – that sass!) more than makes up for all of its flaws. Not to mention, I learned so much about the Egyptian Gods because of this series.

#8 Theodosia Thockmorton Series by R.L. LaFevers

Theodosia’s father might be the head curator at the Museum of Legends and Antiquities in London, but it’s always been her who can see all the black magic and curses that are still attached to the museum’s artifacts. Sneaking behind her father’s back, Theo uses old, nearly forgotten Egyptian magic to protect her father and the rest of the museum employees from the ancient, sinister forces in the museum’s dark hallways. Unfortunately, when her mother returned from her latest archaeological dig bearing the Heart of Egypt, she accidentally brought a dark curse that could crumble the British Empire from within and start a war too terrible to imagine. It’s upon Theo now to prevent the rising chaos from destroying her country – and herself.
Why do we recommend this book?
Yeah, so when they say it’s a young adult book, they mean young adult. It’s the kind of book you would read to your child or sometimes think back about and smile to yourself because you found it adorable. To be honest, though, there’s no particular age to enjoy a specific book, and I don’t see any shame in accepting that I devoured these books. It might not be the perfect book, but it was enjoyable enough. An incredibly light, breezy read, this series has many parts that keep pulling me back to re-read the books.
