Mrs. Bennett wishes to marry her daughters before they cross the right age. The arrival of Mr. Darcy, a wealthy bachelor, stirs up every family of the town with single daughters, and Bennetts are no exceptions. While her mother tries to pair her sisters up, Elizabeth clashes with the impervious and arrogant Mr. Darcy, gaining his interest unintentionally. In this 1813 classic, the two main characters fight off their attraction as they struggle with their pride and prejudices about each other.
Why do we recommend this book?
It’s the last classic novel on this list, promise. But c’mon, how can anyone miss this gem of a novel when talking about literature. The writing here is complex and quite incomprehensible at first reading, but it gets better, with time (if you simultaneously use a dictionary). Elizabeth and Darcy’s romance is another reason to read this. And if you have already read it, re-read it.
