For Charlie, high school is nothing short of a challenge. But, as he enters and explores this new world, all begins to unfold. Amidst all the drama and uncharted high school territories, it is up to him to either accept the changes coming in his life or to stay in a quiet corner within the safe boundaries of his comfort zone.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Book Review

In this new modern world, coming-of-age stories have a different dynamic. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is a book full of struggles and mental trauma told by Charlie in the form of letters to an unknown friend.

The book’s writing style is so powerful that it makes readers think they are the ones writing the letter.

“Things change. And friends leave. Life doesn’t stop for anybody.”

Stephan Chbosky

Out of all the characters, Charlie’s most prominent development comes as he decides to leave his past and move forward with his life. The realistic picture of a struggling teenage boy painted by the author makes the character even more relatable.
I think that a person’s mental well-being is underrated when it comes to fiction, but seeing this book perfectly falls into place.

I also like that this book shares high school experiences with complete accuracy and does not shy away from other tabooed aspects like the LGBT community.

“We accept the love we think we deserve.”

Stephan Chbosky

One of my favorite quotes from the book reminds me not to second guess myself and to accept myself before I can do it to someone else.

This book is the perfect example of a real-life coming-of-age story, and I recommend it to anyone who loves young adult fiction and strives to understand the struggles of high school from a new and fresh perspective.

Conclusion:

Rating: 4/5
Recommendation: 95%
I love coming-of-age stories, and this is one of my go-to books when I’m having a hard time with my life. As a young adult, I can perfectly resonate with the character’s state of mind and hope that it has the same effect on everyone who reads the book.
