People we meet on vacation are a second chance, opposites attract, and friends to lovers romance. Writing the review of the people we meet on vacation is a happy moment for me.

It is filled with mutual pining, inside jokes, and fantastic chemistry. We think that if two best friends became lovers, they would not find anything new about each other because they already know each other from the inside out. But that is not the case.

Even after knowing someone for a lifetime, you will find something new about them every day. So here’s a spoiler-free review of the People we meet on vacation.

After college, they mostly live far apart; however, every summer, they take a trip together and go on exciting adventures. Until one summer, everything falls apart.

People We Meet on Vacation Book Review

This book was a phenomenal friend-to-lover book. How beautiful it is when strangers turn into best friends, and how heartbreaking it is when best friends turn into strangers.

Poppy lives in NYC, working as a travel writer for a posh magazine, whereas Alex lives in their small Ohio hometown, longing to start a family and live that picket-fence lifestyle. Despite their busy lives, they meet each other once a year for their week-long summer vacation. But they last spoke to each other two years ago because of some situation.

Poppy has achieved her dream of becoming a travel writer but doesn’t feel happy. When she thinks about the last time she felt comfortable, it was with Alex. So she plans a week-long vacation to reconcile with her ex-best friend. These two have such a connection, but the problem is no matter how much they care for each other, they both want different things. Things that are challenging to compromise on.

It hurts to want it all, so many things that can’t coexist within the same life.

This story is told in the present situation, but many flashbacks show Alex and Poppy’s friendship. I like to see how their friendship began because it helps me root for them as a couple. There was so much mystery in this book about what happened between them and why they were no longer on speaking terms. But this book was not only about fun. There were many serious topics also.

I love that this book talks about how completing your long-term goals can lead to depression because it’s about the journey, not the destination, and how the best way to find your happiness when you lose it is to retrace your steps and think about when was the last time you were delighted.

“Wherever you are, that’s where I belong. I’ll never belong anywhere like I belong with you. No matter what I’m feeling, I want you next to me. You’re home to me”

But there were some moments where I felt that Alex was too meek, but it depends on your perspective. Poppy also seemed a bit immature sometimes. But, overall, this book was a fun read for me.

Conclusion

Rating: 4/ 5

Recommendation: Undoubtedly. 100%

Friend to strangers to lovers is such a beautiful trope that I can’t help myself falling for it. There is so much angst and history between them when they meet again that it feels electrifying. I absolutely loved this book. I am sure you will love this book as much as I did.
