All The Bright Places Book Review

All The Bright Places is an outstanding book. It shows that saving them isn’t always possible despite your love for someone. The book gently touches on first love and how quickly you can fall for someone, but also the pain that comes when your idea of forever ends.

It explores the difficulty of teenage years and mental health struggles among young adults. The plotline highlights heavy themes like grief, trauma, depression, and suicide. The female and male protagonists – Violet and Finch, are dealing with their mental issues while also trying to help each other get through the pain and struggles of surviving with it.

“You are all the colors in one, at full brightness.”

Jennifer Niven, All The Bright Places

When Violet is first introduced to us, her character is overwhelmed with grief following a traumatic accident. With the advancement of the plot, she emerges as a strong female lead, able to overcome all her losses, and her recovery journey feels real. Finch is a complex character with anger issues and erratic behavior and generally does what he wants. Though he is always on his best behavior with Violet; thus, she never sees how much Finch is hurting.

As you turn the pages of this book, you get more attached to the characters. They’re both so young, and their lives so complicated, but they give their relationship a try. And for their sake, we wish for a happy ending. But love can’t fix everything. Sometimes, love is not enough.

“We do not remember days, we remember moments.”

Jennifer Niven, All The Bright Places

The plot constantly explores life and death, showing the reader just how fragile life is, and it comes with an overpowering message of doing everything before it is too late. It emphasizes how important it is to treasure every moment with a loved one before it is snatched away.

The book is a must-read and keeps you turning page after page. The author’s note at the end made the story more memorable. You will never look at anything the same way after reading this book; it changes your view about everything.
