Carrying a Guinness World Record for the best-selling novelist is not a joke. And it indeed is worth writing about! Moreover, Agatha Christe’s novels have sold millions of copies, her works coming only third in rankings of the world’s most widely-published books (next only to Shakespeare and the Bible, how cool is that?).
To date, she is the most-translated individual author – her works have been translated into at least 103 languages. Finally, in this article, we have included almost all the best-selling books by Agatha Christie and why we find them worth spending money on.
P.s. The books have all been arranged in alphabetical order.
#1 After The Funeral
About the Book
Title: After The Funeral
Publisher: Berkley
Pages: 256
Goodreads rating: 3.9/
Richard Abernethie is dead. After his Funeral, his relatives gather around to read his will. When his sister says something in passing, it shocks everyone, ‘It has been hushed up very nicely, hasn’t it…But he was murdered, wasn’t he?’ However, the next day she is found dead too. Hercule Poirot is called as the mystery of both the deaths gets darker, and it becomes clear that literally, every person in the household has a reason to commit the crime. Lastly, it is one of the most popular books in the Hercule Poirot Detective Series. After the Funeral is sure to leave everyone wishing for more and is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.
Why do we recommend this book?
Moreover, Christie’s signatory writing style has upped a notch in this wonderfully executed mystery. However, the Victorian-style setting and writing add to the charm of an already exciting plot, and the whole Adams family vibes (just take out the comedy from the dark comedy) I got from this novel had me floored. The ending might be too unrealistic, but when have any of Christie’s novels been normal?

#2 A Murder Is Announced
About the Book
Title: A Murder Is Announced

One of the books in the Miss Maple Series – A murder, is announced in a small-town newspaper advertisement. The article mentions everything – the date, time, and place where the crime is to occur. Why do we recommend this book?
Miss Marple is one of the few lady detectives we have in literature. And she is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic. However, it’s no surprise that Christie manages to bring a twist to literally anything, and this book is no exception. Just when you thought you knew where this was going, she pulls another trick out of her magic bag. But you only really have yourself to blame because when has Agatha ever been predictable? Read to know more about this book which is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.

#3 And Then There Were None
About the Book
Title: And Then There Were None
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Pages: 264
Goodreads rating: 4.3/5
10 people who are strangers to each other are invited to an island estate as guests to spend their weekend. Their holiday takes a turn for the worse when their host is missing. It further goes down the hill when murders start happening. Moreover, the method of death is exactly like the poem they see on their rooms’ walls every night, as if this is all a game that a child is playing. But as body counts rise, everyone turns on each other even with all the precautions. The most crucial question remains amid the mayhem: Why are they being targeted? And by whom? However, here, not even the dead are above suspicion.
Why do we recommend this book?
C’mon, you knew this would be here. Inarguably one of the best works by Christie. Like seriously, there aren’t many mystery novels in literature’s history that can top this one. The way every murder plays out is genius, creative, and eerie. The closed-off island setting brings the mystery factor up a notch, and it’s one of those books where you sit on the edge of your seats till the very last line of the previous page of the book. Finally, nothing we say would give justice to this book, honestly. However, just read it as it is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.

#4 Cards On The Table
About the Book
Title: Cards On The Table
Publisher: Berkley
Pages: 324
Goodreads rating: 3.9/5
Poirot met the flamboyant collector Mr. Shaitana at an exhibition where he was invited to a dinner party to see his personal crime-related collection. His collection includes four murder suspects whom he believes have evaded justice. Poirot hesitates but, in the end, accepts the invitation. However, his fellow guest invitees include a secret service agent, Colonel Race, Superintendent Battle of Scotyard, and a mystery writer Mrs. Ariadne Oliver. However, whenever a game of bridge results in Mr. Shaitana’s murder, none of the four murder suspects can be ruled out. Finally, the four crime professionals work together to solve the mystery.
Why do we recommend this book?
One of Christie’s books features a crossover of almost all of her most popular characters (too bad we didn’t get Miss Maple). Card On The Table has got central characters, all of who are in the same field and yet couldn’t be any more different from each other. It made for such an interesting dynamic, watching them all clash because their way of solving cases differs significantly.

#5 Colonel Race Series
About the Book
Title: Colonel Race
Publisher: Harper Collins Publishers
No. of Books: 4
Books in it: #1 The Man in The Brown Suit, #2 Cards on the Table (Hercule Poirot #15), #3 Death on the Nile (Hercule Poirot #17), #4 Sparkling Cyanide
Goodreads rating: 3.9/5
Ex-Army Colonel and MI5 agent – Johnnie Race features in four of Agatha Christie’s books. He is Hercule Poirot’s good friend and assists him during the case of ‘Cards’ on the Table and Death on the Nile. He appears as a central character in The Man in the Bright Suit and Sparkling Cyanide alongside other original characters and is the prime detective at the location. However, his role as a series character is debatable.
When Anne, a newly orphaned English girl, witnesses death, she finds her life in jeopardy. Though the death was announced natural, Anne had a feeling that it was murder, a conviction that strengthens when she is attacked, almost strangled to death. As she follows the trail from London to Africa, tracking lost diamonds, she inadvertently struggles with theft plans, murders, and politics, trying to stay alive.
Why do we recommend this book?
Johnnie Race is so sharp, intelligent, and charming. Sure he doesn’t think as out of the box as Poirot, but that makes him seem more relatable. Though he solves his cases more conventionally (as opposed to Hercule), he never discounts others’ theories, making him such a great friend. And a character whose cameo in other books you can always look forward to. Too bad we only have four books featuring him and one novel that briefly mentioned him (Appointment with Death, Hercule Poirot Book #19).

#6 Crooked House
About the Book
Title: Crooked House
Publisher: Minotaur Books
Pages: 276
Goodreads rating: 4/5
For years, the Leonides family has lived in Three Gables, a crooked house that resembles a swollen cottage, under the patriarchy of the wealthy Aristide Leonides. When his granddaughter, Sophia, returns from Cairo, she finds Aristide dead, leaving behind a fortune of inheritance, one that his 50 years younger widowed wife is to inherit. However, when the autopsy result declares him poisoned, the suspects are automatically the newly widowed lady and her assumed lover. But when criminologist Charles Hayward comes to investigate the murder at Sophie’s request, he realizes that the whole family had a motive to kill Aristide. After all, when it comes to a crooked house like Three Gables, nothing is ever as simple as it seems at first glance.
Why do we recommend this book?
It was a pleasant addition to have Charles be Sophie’s lover. At least he knew what he would be getting into if he married her because this whole family was off their rockers. Not really, but also, yeah. Lastly, Agatha Christie did a fantastic job keeping the mystery alive throughout the novel (just like always) and giving enough depth to the main characters to make us care about them. It is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.

#7 Death Comes As The End
About the Book
Title: Death Comes As The End
Publisher: St. Martin’s Paperbacks
Pages: 277
Goodreads rating: 3.8/5
A story set in ancient Egypt – Death Comes As The End has a family as the core suspects in this murder mystery. When Imhotep, a wealthy landowner and priest of Thebes, bring a concubine to their house and lives, his children are predictable; of course, it doesn’t help that Nofret is as manipulative as they come; she has come with an ulterior motive. But when her corpse is discovered at the foot of a cliff, the household of Imhotep goes into jeopardy. So, naturally, his children are prime suspects, but nothing is ever as predictable in Christie’s world.
Why do we recommend this book?
Firstly, if you are a long-time Christie fan, this is one of her few books where the killer is pretty obvious. And yet, like always, the brilliance of her reveal never fails to leave us in awe. This is one of her few books that get real disturbing at times, and – trigger warning – there are lots of deaths here, but as a mystery lover, this isn’t a book that could, or should, be skipped.

#8 Death On The Nile
About the Book
Title: Death On The Nile
Publisher: Bantam books
Pages: 214
Goodreads rating: 4.1/5
Death On The Nile is a travel mystery, one of Christie’s best-selling novels. A cruise along the Nile turns for the worse when the young and beautiful Linnett Ridgeway is shot through her head. Poirot remembers overhearing someone talk about their pistol and their wish to use it on her. So they have their prime suspect, but could it really be that simple? There is nothing in Christie’s universe, especially when the victim had too many enemies aboard the ship. So would Poirot be able to find the culprit before they find their next target?
Why do we recommend this book?
A murder when the innocent bystanders are stuck in a place with the culprit, who could be anyone – that chaos is something else. This is when the true character of humans is realized. Death on The Nile is undoubtedly one of Christie’s best works, especially when it managed to be unpredictable in a way she has never been – by actually being predictable for once? But you didn’t hear that from me. It is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.

#9 Endless Night
About the Book
Title: Endless Night
Publisher: HarperCollins
Pages: 303
Goodreads rating: 3.8/5
When Michael Rogers meets the beautiful, wealthy heiress Ellie Gutman, it’s instant love for them. Before long, the two are living a peaceful life at Gisy’s Acre. But rumors are spreading of a curse hanging over the Acre. And the longer they stay at the place, the more Ellie starts to believe them. And as more and more people get involved and fall prey to the land, the newly married have to wonder whether it’s a curse or if someone has it out for them. Endless Nights by Agatha Christie was published firstly in 1967. It is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.
Why do we recommend this book?
This book is slow, and it takes effort on the reader’s part to stay invested, but once the book reaches its half-point, the pace picks up. And the plot twists just don’t stop thereon. It’s not her best work, but it’s still worth reading. And re-reading to find all the clues (which you are supposed to do with every Christie’s book).

#10 Miss Marple Series
About the Book
Title: Miss Marple
Publisher: Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers
No. of Books: 32
Goodreads rating: 4/5
Miss Marple is another famous literature detective created by Christie who works as an amateur detective (someone who doesn’t have the qualifications, i.e., is not a professional, but does have the talents and smarts for mystery solving; they investigate cases as a hobby). She features in 12 of Christie’s books as the central character and in 20 additional short stories where she is sometimes an important character and other times appears as a supporting role along with other characters of Agatha Christie’s creation (crossover stories).
Miss Jane Marple lives in the village of St. Mary Mead and is a massive gossip lover. However, when mysterious deaths start occurring in her small town, Marple realizes her knack for facts adding and mystery-solving and finds her passion in investigating. Her character appears in murder at the Vicarage for the first time.
Why do we recommend this book?
Miss Marple is one of the few lady detectives we have in literature. And she is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic. Honestly, Marple isn’t that good of a character with her nosiness but then gradually grows to become an outstanding character and utilizes her talents for the greater good, making Jane so much easier to root for and relate to. Not to mention she is a proud elderly spinster and owns it. We love an unbothered queen!

#11 Murder At The Vicarage
About the Book
Title: Murder At The Vicarage
Publisher: Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers
Pages: 288
Goodreads rating: 4/5
Featuring Miss Marple for the first time, one of the most famous detectives in literature, and a loved character of Christie’s creature, Murder at the Vicarage is the first book in the Miss Maple series. A clergyman made a careless remark about the death of Colonel Protheroe, which later had him fall into the pits of despair when the Colonel is found dead in his study. However, Miss Marple’s knack for gossiping has her realizing that there’s more to the Colonel’s death, considering that the whole village seemed to have one or the other reason to kill him.
Why do we recommend this book?
Miss Marple is an amateur detective who doesn’t have professional qualifications but has plenty of talent. And like all of Christie’s books, the central police department here seems to be of no use either. Instead, Miss Jane Maple is a famous spinster in the village who knows everyone. And early on in the book, it appears that she has already solved the case. The debut novel of the character, Miss Maple, is easy to fall for because of her wit and feistiness. This is not a book to be missed. It’s no wonder this is such a hit. It is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.

#12 Murder On The Orient Express
About the Book
Title: Murder On The Orient Express
Publisher: HarperCollins
Pages: 274
Goodreads rating: 4.1/5
A non-stop thrill ride literally, Murder On The Orient Express is another brilliant addition to the Hercule Poirot series. A snowdrift leads to a break in the Orient Express’s journey through the mountainous Balkans, where it stops in its track just after midnight. By the time morning comes, the train is one passenger less when an American businessman is found dead in his compartment, stabbed a dozen times, and his door locked from the inside; his fellow passengers are stumped. Stucked together with a murderer who could strike again whenever everyone is scared. Luckily, detective Hercule Poirot is also on the train, and he is sure of only one thing – his vacation is over. It is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.
Why do we recommend this book?
You are telling me she wrote this masterpiece almost a century ago? Well, it was indeed the golden era of murder mysteries. They don’t do it like that anymore. This book is literally 70% of my book club’s introduction to Agatha Christie, and there’s a reason that all of them are die-hard fans of hers since then. The mystery is done so right, and the absolute craziness of the investigation is really nothing to scoff at. One of her best-executed whodunnit books.

#13 The A.B.C. Murders
About the Book
Title: The A.B.C. Murders
Publisher: Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers
Pages: 232
Goodreads rating: 4/5
Poirot isn’t sure what to make of the instigation he received in the form of a serial killer boasting that he could commit a perfect murder that Poirot himself won’t be able to solve. Moreover, Poirot is discontented with how personal it seems when the murders start. Alice Asher of Andover and Betty bernard of Bexhill are dead. 2 letters of the alphabet down, 24 more to go. Would Poirot be able to stop the deaths before the mad A.B.C. murderer targets his following letter? In a situation where the suspects could be literally anyone from Great Britain, this case will be a headache for Poirot.
Why do we recommend this book?
Christie delved deeper into the psychology of crimes and criminals with this book, and we finally got to see Poirot showing emotions and being human! (Just Kidding). Christie also gave us first-person and third-person povs here, which I found to be an exciting approach to this genre and her writing. The ending (and the plot twists) is literally so satisfying to reach – all the logical patterns and reasonings really had me exercising my brain cells.

#14 The Murder of Roger Ackroyd
About the Book
Title: The Murder Of Roger Ackroyd
Publisher: Black Dog & Leventhal Publishers
Pages: 288
Goodreads rating: 4.2/5
The peaceful English village of King’s Abbot, where nothing interesting ever occurs, is in shock when the widow Ferrars dies from an overdose of veronal. The man she planned to marry – Roger Ackroyd – is found murdered within a day. This wasn’t the kind of excitement the village was looking for! As Hercule Poirot is called to solve the case, even the world-famous detective is stumped. The deeper he investigates, the more he reaches a block. This will be Poirot’s most complicated and startling case, with a conclusion that no one would see coming. It is one of the best-selling books by Agatha Christie.
Why do we recommend this book?
The only book by Agatha Christie to be featured in the 1001 Books to Read Before you Die list, there had to be something worthwhile in this book which weren’t in her other genius works. Trust me, you will find the answer only after reading it. The culprit? You won’t be able to guess that it could have been them for even a second. Christie outdid herself with this book in terms of unpredictability. No wonder this is one of her most controversial mysteries.

#15 The Mysterious Affairs At Styles
About the Book
Title: The Mysterious Affairs At Styles
Publisher: Warbler Classics
Pages: 174
Goodreads rating: 4/5
Agatha Christie’s debut novel it’s the first book to feature the famous Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Poirot has settled in England near his wealthy benefactor’s estate – Styles Court of Emily Inglethorp. When she is poisoned, Hercule takes it upon himself to solve the case. But there are too many suspects and not enough evidence. Is it her much younger husband, resentful stepsons, or long-time hired companion? Or is it a family friend or a London specialist on poison who just so happens to be visiting a nearby village? One thing’s for sure – Hercule isn’t going to stop until he has wholly untangled the webs of deceit and conspiracy of the Styles.
Why do we recommend this book?
The first book introduces Hercule Poirot, who would become one of the most famous detectives in literature! He is younger, more charming, and weirder, and that’s the best part of the book. Honestly not my favorite book by her, but the young Poirot is so different from how I am used to that it was amazingly refreshing. You can’t miss this book if you have loved Hercule Poirot forever.
