Do you believe in kismet?

Cosima Stratton is spending Christmas alone. A surprise breakup hands her the perfect opportunity to spend Christmas on her own terms and she is excited to pass the day reading, watching Christmas movies and eating good food. Everything changes when she and a stranger agree to share a table at a restaurant two days before Christmas.

Tristan Jackson’s Christmas plans went up in smoke with a request he couldn’t find it in his heart to deny. He intends to spend his Christmas sulking over all the things that could have been but becomes intrigued with the woman he inadvertently shares dinner with.

Tristan asks Cosima to spend Christmas with him over glasses of spiked hot chocolate. He doesn’t expect her to agree but she does. They soon learn that while it’s good to make plans, sometimes the Universe’s plan is much better!

Book Review of Spiked Hot Chocolate

He gave her a sly smile. “It was worth a shot. I’m running out of ways to keep you here.”

Cosima didn’t respond immediately, and Tristan found himself backtracking. “Was that creepy? I didn’t mean for it to be creepy.”

“No, not at all,” she said, a wide smile blossoming on her face. “I just thought I was the one keeping you here.”

Tristan returned her smile. “Maybe we’re keeping each other.”

I love a good romance book with dual perspectives. It gives the readers much more knowledge about the thought process of the main leads at the moment when they themselves wouldn’t know that about each other. Tristan and Cosima were adorable. The pacing of their relationship was perfect.

The utter clarity with which the characters were written, even the minor ones, is admirable. That made them more relatable and their actions and decisions even more understandable.

“Half the reason I’m choosing to spend Christmas alone is because I really don’t want to deal with the same concern you’re talking about. I don’t want people looking at me with sympathy-filled eyes over their glasses of eggnog, and I don’t want anybody to think I’m pretending to be okay when they see I’m fine.” She allowed her voice to soften. “Too fine, perhaps.”

The honesty, understanding, openness and respect shared between Cosima and Tristan were excellently written. These factors were what kept me glued to their interactions till the end. They were fun, and their chemistry was very natural. So, it won in that department as a romance novella.

He couldn’t believe that he was here with a woman he had just met but felt like a summer rain against his soul.

Overall, I enjoyed this book; also adding that I prefer short books better. It was a light-hearted read that provided everything a novella should provide: good pace, not very crowded, good character build-up, and a memorable read. Many novellas fail mostly at connecting readers to the characters. But you can be assured that Cosima and Tristan stay with you long after you’ve finished the book. I have no complaints about it, except for spicy books not being my cup of tea. Nevertheless, it was a sweet, Christmassy, and heart-warming love story of Kismet.

“My kismet is you.”

Recommendation: I recommend this book to spicy romance book lovers, especially those looking for a Christmas Romance book or a short book with an adorable and heartwarming love story.

Rilzy Adams

Rilzy Adams needs only five things to survive: sushi, coffee, Prosecco, cuddles and words (though not in that order). She’s a lawyer by day – writer by ‘whenever she can get the free time’ and believes that love makes the world go ’round. It is no small wonder, then, that she can’t help but pen tales of people falling in love.
