Divergent Series Book Review

You know how I love young adult novels, but this one? Hands down, the most gripping I’ve ever read. Seriously, I couldn’t put it down.

First of all, can we just talk about how everything in this series clicks together? I mean, the cover, the title—everything fits so well with the story’s vibe. The design isn’t just there to look pretty (though it totally does); it actually ties into the plot! Like, you’ve got the bowl symbol representing the whole faction choice thing, and then fire and water combined on the last cover? It screams “epic conclusion,” and trust me, it delivers.

Now, let’s talk about the pacing. Every book flows so smoothly into the next. It’s like Roth knew exactly how to keep things moving at just the right speed. The writing? So easy to read, but still so smart. She has this way of hinting at things, and then bam—the answer hits you just a page or two later. It’s the kind of fast-paced, twisty-turny rollercoaster that keeps you glued, wondering what’s next. You’ll be on the edge of your seat, guaranteed.

And the characters! Oh wow. No one is just what they seem at first. They’ve all got these layers, especially Tris. She’s my favorite, hands down. At the beginning, she’s all shy and unsure of herself, but by the end? Total warrior status. She transforms into this fierce leader, taking on society and leading a whole rebellion. It’s amazing to watch her grow.

Now, the ending… whew. One word: epic. I won’t spoil it, but let’s just say it’s not your typical “happily ever after” kind of deal. And yeah, some people might debate whether it should have ended differently, but honestly? I wouldn’t change a thing. It wraps up everything perfectly, in the most jaw-dropping, emotional way possible.

Goodreads rating: 4.2/5

In post-apocalyptic Chicago, the population is divided into four factions; it is the duty of every 16-year-old to choose a section to spend the rest of their life in. Beatrice Prior, a young Abnegation girl, is given a choice that could change her life and everyone around her. But there is a catch. As a matter of fact, she must keep her test results to herself or cause everyone around her to fall in despair. What will she choose?

Why do we recommend this book?

It’s the perfect start to a totally mind-blowing journey. The characters? Unforgettable. And this is where we first learn what it really means to be “divergent.” One scene I absolutely loved was when the main character, Beatrice, chooses to go by Tris instead of her full name. It’s such a small moment, but it’s super powerful. It shows she’s done living the life she was born into and ready to embrace the one she’s chosen for herself. It’s so inspiring!

Rating: 5/5

Recommendation: Definitely!!

Divergent: #2 Insurgent

About the Book

Title: Insurgent

Pages: 525

Goodreads rating: 4/5

The second installment of the divergent series opens after a painful coup instigated by the Erudite against the other factions and their hunt for the divergent. Finally, all there is left to do is uproot them, and what better candidate to do that other than the most difficult divergent to trap, Tris Prior?

Why do we recommend this book?

Insurgent is an emotional rollercoaster. You’ve got confessions, sacrifices, betrayals—it’s just one thing after another. The action had me biting my nails the entire time! Seriously, if you thought the first book was intense, this one takes it up several notches. I’m talking edge-of-your-seat tension!

Rating: 5/5

Recommendation: Indeed, absolutely

Goodreads rating: 3.6/5

An epic conclusion to a marvelous story. Tris and her associates travel outside their home city and find much more than they bargained for. A truth that can turn everyone’s lives in the city upside down.

Why do we recommend this book?

This one’s a bit more complex than the first two, and yeah, I had to stop and really think about some of the stuff going on. But let me tell you, the ending? Wow. It’s shocking and heartbreaking in all the best ways. It’s like the final act of rebellion, and nothing—absolutely nothing—goes back to how it was. It’s the kind of ending that sticks with you long after you close the book.

Rating: 5/5

Recommendation: Indeed, absolutely
