11 Best Book-to-Screen Adaptations For A Wonderful Experience — Favbookshelf

As readers, sometimes more than just reading a book is needed; we look at fan art, stalk the author’s social accounts, and make a playlist of the book. Screen adaptations of books fulfil all these obligations.

Unfortunately, adaptations are scary as they (may) get everything wrong, and the book would be ruined. So, I have included below the recommendations of movies or TV series that are actually good.

Owls start appearing on post boards, trying to deliver him letters. He has been whisked away to an adventure of prophecies, chocolate frogs, and magic.

Why do we recommend this?

The classic story of the boy who lived needs no recommendation. The movies are a magical experience of their own. They are beautiful, and the world of Hogwarts comes to life. Although fans have problems with some characters, it is still one of the best screen adaptations.

Why do we recommend this?

This is one of the most charming screen adaptations that I have ever watched. It will make you wish that you were born on Prince Edward Island. Anne with an E, also adds to the original story by addressing issues like sexuality, racism, and empowerment.

Why do we recommend this?

This movie adaptation is by the famous director Hayao Miyazaki. It is whimsical, beautiful, and full of magic. This is one of the most visually pleasing movies I have ever seen. It is a bundle of everything perfection.

Trouble has come to Westeros. Rangers in the North talk about mysterious sightings beyond the wall. The hand of the king is dead, leaving a critical seat empty, and a rebellion brews in the east. A revolution is brewing with talks of ancient dragons returning to life.

Why do we recommend this?

This show singlehandedly rekindled the hype for the fantasy genre. It is brilliant in every possible way; the plot, the characters, the action, and the ambience are fantastic. Unfortunately, the show becomes lacklustre in the later seasons, but the earlier seasons remain the best thing I have ever watched.

#5 Bridgerton Series by Julia Quinn Bridgerton (TV series)

The Bridgerton family is one of the most renowned families in the entire town. As a result, the kids are some of the most sought-after matches for the town’s bachelors. We follow the eight Bridgerton siblings trying to find true love in the Regency era.

Why do we recommend this?

This series feels like a bowl of delicious dessert. You will never want it to end. I love the aesthetic of this show. It is just so pleasing to the eye. The male characters in this show are flawed in their ways, but they are swoon-worthy (look out for Anthony Bridgerton). All in all, this is a fantastic Regency era and of the best screen adaptations that everyone should watch.

#6 The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (Movie)

Why do we recommend this?

When they say that books are ALWAYS better, they lie because this movie was way better than the book. It is a beautiful and heartbreaking story, both on page and screen, but this time, the film does a splendid job portraying the message that the book doesn’t live up to the comparison. This is one of those screen adaptations that will haunt you long after you’ve done watching it.

#7 Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Pride and Prejudice (Movie)

Why do we recommend this?

This is not just a Pride and Prejudice appreciation thing but a 2005 Pride and Prejudice appreciation thing. It is the most beautiful movie that you will ever watch. If anything, you should watch it for the hand flex scene alone. It is peak cinematic brilliance.

#8 Heartstopper series by Alice Oseman Heartstopper (TV series)

Why do we recommend this?

If you want something wholesome but with comedy and drama on the side, then this is the show for you. I think that Oseman is the writer that every teen should read. This screen adaptation translates Alice’s ideas and gentleness while dealing with mental health.

#9 The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty The Exorcist (Movie)

Chris rushes her to every psychiatrist, and then, at last, she goes to the doorstep of a priest to beg for her daughter’s soul.

Why do we recommend this?

The image from The Exorcist has haunted all our childhoods. This is one of the rare movies that can compare with the sheer brilliance of the book. Linda Blair delivers her best as Regan.

#10 Devdas by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay Devdas (Movie)

The tragic story of Devdas tangles with the lives of Paro and Chandramuki. This has taken the position of a classic in Indian literature.

Why do we recommend this?

I can’t say anything about this movie that has already been said. The costumes, the cinematography, the choreography, the soundtrack, and the acting are phenomenal. This is a must-watch.

#11 The Shining by Stephen King The Shining (Movie)

Why do we recommend this?

Many King books can be on this screen adaptations list, but this one quickly takes the cake. Stanley Kubrick brilliantly recreates the Overlook Hotel in this movie. This is one of the best movies of the psychological horror genre and a must-watch for any Stephen King fan.
