Matilda is the story of a young girl with a magical mind. As a young child of four, she possesses as many reading skills as any average adult. This story is about the perseverance of a young child to prove that she does not need any adult to make her learn and that there really is no right age to start learning.

Matilda Book Review

Oh my goodness, let me tell you about Matilda! You know those books that just stick with you for years? This is the one for me. I first read it back in middle school, and even today, when I need a good laugh or a quick pick-me-up, it’s one of my go-to reads. Seriously, it never gets old!

The cover perfectly sums up the vibe of the book. It shows a little girl—Matilda—perched on a mountain of books, which is so her. The girl’s love for reading is next-level, and I could totally relate to her dream of having quiet afternoons, a cozy chair, and a hot drink. Basically, that’s her version of paradise, and I’m like, “Same, girl. Same.”

“The books transported her into new world and introduced her to amazing people who lived exciting lives.”

Roald Dahl

Now, even though I’ve read this book a bunch of times (guilty as charged), every time I pick it up, the characters still surprise me in some way. Matilda’s teacher, Miss Honey, is an absolute gem. She’s like that one teacher we all secretly wish we had—a total sweetheart who understands Matilda better than anyone else and backs her up 100%. It’s like a beautiful parent-child bond, and it’ll definitely give you the feels.

On the flip side, we’ve got the villains—Matilda’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood, and the terrifying headmistress, Miss Trunchbull. And let me tell you, these folks are bad. No character development for them; they just exist to make Matilda’s life miserable. But honestly, that just makes Matilda’s small victories even sweeter!

” Never do anything by halves, if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it’s unbelievable”

Roald Dahl

Now, the humor in this book? Chef’s kiss. Matilda’s pranks on her awful parents? I mean, pure brilliance! They always leave me in stitches. And the fact that this tiny, innocent-looking girl is the mastermind behind these practical jokes? Genius. Pure genius.

As for the writing, it’s just… fun! It’s written in such a simple, clear way that you could breeze through it in no time, but it never feels shallow. Even though it deals with heavier topics like bullying and neglect, it never gets bogged down. It keeps that light, easy-going vibe throughout, which is pretty amazing.

Conclusion
