I Am Malala is the extraordinary story of a family uprooted by global terrorism and the struggle for girls’ education. Malala is a young teenager from the Swat Valley in Pakistan. The Taliban began to control everything. They eventually made rules that girls could not go to school and that women could not leave the house unless accompanied by a male relative. Malala would not put up with this because she wants to learn and know the answers to her questions. She is the daughter of the principal of her school. After surviving a gunshot to the head, a month-long hospital stay, and a move to England, Malala becomes an activist for girls’ rights and believes everyone has the right to go to school.
I Am Malala Book Review
I just finished reading “I Am Malala,” and wow, what a ride! This book is all about perseverance, courage, and the amazing power of one voice to shake up the world. Imagine a young girl standing up for her rights and education against all odds—that’s Malala for you. It really made me appreciate our educational opportunities so much more. And guess what? The narration has this strong, feminist vibe that I absolutely loved.
Feminism is a central theme in this book. The author fought hard for women’s rights after the Taliban came to power in Pakistan. Together with her father, she advocates for women’s education. She doesn’t hold back in calling out the messed-up norms of society. It’s honestly jaw-dropping to read about the horrible things women go through, even today.
“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.”
Malala Yousafzai, I am Malala
Through her writing, Malala gives us a raw and honest look into her family and others living in Pakistan. It’s eye-opening to see how people live under such constant fear and terror. The book tackles sensitive topics like war, terrorism, and shootings, revealing the depth of Malala’s thoughts and experiences despite her young age.
The book’s cover is super simple yet powerful. You’ve got this hopeful and brave-looking Malala staring right at you, almost urging you to read her story and support her cause. It’s so inspiring to read the words of the youngest Nobel Peace Prize winner ever!
“Let us pick up our books and our pens, they are the most powerful weapons.”
Malala Yousafzai, I am Malala
I had no clue what to expect going in, but man, was I blown away. It didn’t feel like a formal autobiography at all. It was more like reading a teenage girl’s diary, where she pours her heart out about the crazy, unimaginable stuff she’s been through. Malala’s memoir is so gripping, it’ll stick with you long after you’ve turned the last page.
Conclusion
Rating: 4.5/5
Recommendation: If you love reading feminist texts with powerful and heartfelt narratives, you’ll absolutely adore this memoir.
P.S. Seriously, go read it!
